It has been over a month since I last posted anything – I am so sorry! Apart from the usual Christmas/New Years chaos, The Boy and I thought we’d add a house move into the mix too. Seemed like such a good idea back in October but once it came around we were both wondering why we decided to do it between two holidays! Needless to say we didn’t get much of a classic Christmas, with visiting friends and family and relaxing. At least we’ve learned a valuable lesson!
Anyway, we’re now in our new home and getting settled. I’ll do a separate post about our house as it is in desperate need of soft furnishings to brighten up the neutral colours of the house (the joy of rental properties!)
Right now though, I want to share with you what I got up to before Christmas. The Boy and I decided that we would make as many of our Christmas presents as possible. And we did! It took a lot of work and endless nights of me sat in front of the TV surrounded by projects. Also our Christmas Eve was spent like this:
Don’t get me wrong, we really enjoyed putting everything together, drinking coffee liqueurs, listening to Christmas songs and having a lot of fun. It was great! We made lots of things including home-brew Ale, chocolate truffles, cinnamon almonds and Christmas biscuits. We also made:
Christmas baubles! I based these on Bugs and Fishes vintage felt baubles but left out the ric rac and added everyone’s names to them. I think I made around 35 of them in the end. They doubled up as gift tags too. Everyone loved them, they were such a hit!
We made a tonne of Chilli Tomato Chutney and gave them to our parents in their hampers as well as to other family members and friends. This chutney is delicious and I will share the recipe with you at some point! I bought some lovely red and green tartan in a charity shop, which we used to cover the jam jar lids.
I embroidered some pillowcases for my niece and nephews. I loved stitching this Sublime Stitching Unicorn for my only niece (I have 8 nephews!) and each pillowcase had their name on it too.
I hope they cherish these and will forever be fond of them!
This lovely little crochet mug warmer came from Mollie Makes.
One of my sisters has had phone case envy ever since I stitched up this phone case that came with Issue 1 of Mollie Makes! Being the lovely sister that I am, I whipped one up for her (it actually was better than the first one I made for myself!) and to go with it I made her The Pink Whisk’s Chocolate and Peanut Butter Bars as she is a fan of chocolate/peanut butter combos!
For my other sister, I stitched this. Those are the hands of my brother-in-law, my sister and my two nephews (the youngest is only three months old!) It is the first time I have stitched something and then framed it – it was a challenge! Luckily The Boy is far more patient than me and saved me from a mental breakdown! My sister cried when she opened this, I was so thrilled that she loved it.
So those are just a few of my makes. What do you think? Although it was hard work I am so pleased that we did it. The reactions we got when people realised we had made them something was so gratifying.
